I got idea from friend here put my history of my fandom of anime/manga/japan/gaming here. So here it is.
I was born in 1988 and grow up in 90’s. I loved to watch cartoon as kid and so beside all anime I’ve watch. I have as bunch America cartoon under my belt. The main thing I got form American cartoon is a of love dc and marvel hero and their comic. My number one hero is wolverine and team is x-men. So I was real happy, when madhouse did anime version for them. Since a kid I felt they could have anime version to them.
Back on to anime, I would say my first anime is sailor moon, but i will give you that I watch digimon and Pokemon about right before sailor moon and same time. I really have hard time considering them as true anime. With digimon, I went for movies and first 4 season before letting it go and I like it. In Pokemon, I watch through to 3rd generation and have some hate feeling toward Pokemon for not putting character develop and a story into it. I watch a lot Pokemon hoping they would add those element in and they never did. I really can’t say why Pokemon still go on here and in japan. So in the list you will also see some anime like medabots and beyblade, who were made for kid and that have a more cartoon plot-line element to them. I say most of them through Saturday mourning cartoon. Sailor Moon, one I consider my first anime and was introduce to me through a program called toonami on cartoon network. This was where I say most of my first anime, like dragon ball z, gundam wing, and ronin warrior. And where I feel in love with anime. On toonami coming back since when die in early 2000’s, make me happy for new anime fan but I can’t go back to it. I’m not kid and I’ve come to not like dubs. Later on I’ll post about why I most hate most dubs. Tho to tell you the true, anime form back to this point in my life, I still watch them through dubs and like their dubs. 4th grade when I say sailor moon and form there on anime became important part my life.
So rest grade school and most of middle school, toonami was my main source for anime. By 6th grade with sailor moon and other toonami series, I started going on to net. Now before I go more into this, I grow up with apple’s in my house and always had excess to computer. Reason being my dad is computer programer and he love apple/mac. I was able get my own account on his work computer first, then we had family one that I used. In late middle school I got my first own computer. In late grade school I also start renting anime from bender like blockbuster.
The anime fandom of late 90’s and early 2000’s online was a lot different then now. And I miss the old anime fan site that were dime a dozen. They would be hosted on hostler site like GeoCities. Growing up an anime fan, I found around myself that market here this keep getting big and better. In middle school it was hard find friend with same interest but I found one girl who like it in 8th grade and when she and I enter high school we found ton of people who like it. With Naruto and Bleach debut in America, the anime fandom exploded. I personal did not like Naruto series but I’m happy it help grow market here. Other source in middle school for anime for me was Netflix and this where I got a lot rare and old title, plus some weird japanese movies. In high school I had at less 20 friend in my group, where we share anime and talk and this hang.
In late middle school I came too also like not this anime but japanese culture, so in high school every year I took japanese for language. Know I don’t believe Japan better then America and doesn’t got their own problem like us but as for culture I tend like theirs more. In high school, I also found Hayao Miyazaki film/Studio Ghibli and some good Japanese film thanks to my japanese teacher. Also through this class, when I graduated as graduation present, I was able got to japan for two week. Which trip been high point to me and made even love japanese culture more. Most of trip was in Tokyo, then some Hiroshima and Kyoto. In high school, I started moving over online to watch anime. A lot on crunchroll before they start charging for anime. This how I still mainly watch anime is through online streaming. Now I will say i do still support the creator. I been buy anime since late grade school and have nice big collection. After high school not much has change in my anime hobby. My home town library become good source for anime and manga. They started adding stuff in high school. I feel that it. I may later add post about anime over years and which one have been good one and important ones for anime fans to watch and what they mean to me. But for now it good.
OK now to manga, this will be short. Around middle school thanks to anime and collecting anime, I found manga. I start buying and read them as well. In Manga what became important to me was yaoi, which i found online in middle school. I tend to go off and on in try series and buying them with manga. I used be real developed to yaoi scan site, but by end high school that start to die for me. But I still do go read yaoi. In term finding new manga in other genera, I used my hometown library these days. Below I add list store and online store where i get my stuff.
For games, I was never really into them, that being video or other kind game in till I met my current set of friend in late high school. Since then I been playing a lot video game. I own ps2 and wii thanks to my dad and about 3-4 years ago I got xbox 360. I’ve add list of game, that i really like and I think are good below. The few game I play before I met my current friend, were tomb raider games. Which I play with my dad and sister from late grade school to about early high school. Then I had game boy color which play golden sun on. Also I’ve made good list some great and fun japanese movie that are not anime.
